Marking a Synchronized Skating Program

Short Program Standards

The Short Program consists of five required elements:

  1. Circle
  2. Line
  3. Block
  4. Wheel
  5. Intersection

Two marks are awarded for the short program:

There must be considered:

roundness, equal spacing, holds, direction of skating, quality and difficulty of step sequences, control of rotation, speed, cleanness of edges

Straightness, direction, type, quality of holds, direction of skating, quality and difficulty of step sequences, speed, cleanness of edges

Type of configuration, spacing between lines, type and quality of holds, direction, quality and difficulty of step sequences, direction of skating, speed, cleanness of edges

Type, direction, type and quality of hold(s), control of rotation, speed, equal spacing of spokes, quality of step sequences, cleanness of edges and for combinations and/or variations, transitions

Difficulty of maneuver, quality and difficulty of step sequences, specing at the point of intersection, movements at the point of intersection, speed, cleanness of edges, variety of holds and for combinations, transitions

    1. harmonious composition of the program as a whole and ist conformity with the music chosen
    2. difficulty of the transitions
    3. speed
    4. utilization of the ice surface
    5. easy movement and sureness in time to the music
    6. carriage of style
    7. originality
    8. expression of the character of the music
    9. unison and synchronisation of the team

Free Skating Standards

The free skating consists of a well balanced program which must contain:

a variety of circles, lines, blocks, wheels and intersections of which no maneuver is dominant. There must be a balance among all maneuvers.

step sequences of intricate variety used to enhance both the maneuvers and the tranitions

Three different holds for senior teams, two different holds for junior teams

No lifts, no jumps of more than one revolution

One change of tempo in the music selected

Two marks are awarded for the free skating:

b-rot.gif (122 Byte)First mark for the technical merit

There must be considered:

    1. Difficulty
    2. Variety of elements
    3. Cleanness and sureness of skating edges with appropriate speed and flow
    4. Precision and smoothness of transitions

There must be considered:

        1. a harmonious composition of program as a whole and ist conformity with the music chosen
        2. placement of formations and maneuvers in the utilisation of ice surface
        3. unison and synchronisation in relation to the music
        4. carriage and style
        5. originality (uniqueness)
        6. expression of the character of the music
        7. variety of music and movement to rhythm of the music
